Seven police constables injured in armed force personnes attack

Barrackpore, Oct 23 (UNI) At least seven police constables and a number of local volunteers of a club were injured after being assaulted by a troupe of unruly armed force personnel near Palta railway station.

A senior police officer here said a constable was seriously injured and rushed to a sub-divisional hospital while a local youth Tarak Das was admitted to a nursing home.

The other injured were let off after first aid. Rapid Action Force has been deployed to control the situation.

Police alleged that when a small police team along with a team of volunteers were controlling a rush visiting a local Netaji Sangha Puja Pandal at Palta this evening, a couple of armed force men in civil dress behaved 'ungentlemanly' with the women passing by.

They were allegedly intoxicated. As police and volunteers objected, a scuffle broke out. Shortly after the incident, a strong troupe of armed force personnel came out of their camp and assaulted the police and the volunteers.

At least seven policemen were injured, police said.

''We have started investigation to book the offenders. We are yet to confirm whether the troupe was from Army or Air Force camp,'' a senior police official said.

No one was arrested so far.
