Over 23 lakh paddy arrives in Haryana mandis

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) Over 23.31 lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of paddy has arrived in the mandis of Haryana so far this season.

Of the total arrival, six government procuring agencies have procured 14.08 lakh MTs of paddy while the millers purchased 9.21 lakh MTs, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said today.

He said HAFED had procured 5.83 lakh MTs of paddy, Food and Supplies Department 4.51 lakh MTs, Agro Industries Corporation 1.79 lakh MTs, Confed 1.44 lakh MTs and Haryana Warehousing Corporation 44,483 MTs and Food Corporation of India 4,938 MTs.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Kurukshetra district was ahead in arrival of paddy in the state with 5.58 lakh MTs, followed by Karnal 4.37 lakh MTs, Fatehabad 3.67 lakh MTs, Kaithal 2.75 lakh MTs, Ambala 1.97 lakh MTs, Yamunanagar 1.34 lakh MTs and Sirsa 1.03 lakh MTs.

Mr Chander Mohan said the payment to the farmers was being made within 48 to 72 hours. He said a target of purchase of paddy by the government procuring agencies has been fixed at 20 lakh tonnes during the current Kharif season and a sum of Rs 985 crore had been arranged for the payment of paddy to the farmers.
