Draw of lots to determine term of office for LC members

Hyderabad, Oct 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Legislature Secretary K Tuljanand Singh today said draw of lots to determine the term of office for Members of state Legislative Council (LC) would be held at Jubilee Hall here on November two.

In a notification here, he said Governor Narayan Dutt Tiwari had fixed the time and date for draw of lots at 1500 hrs on November two.

In accordance with Article 172 of Indian Constituion, one-third of the Members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council shall retire on the expiration of every second year.

Further, Section 156 of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951 stipulated that upon the first constitution of the Legislative Council, the Governor shall after consultation with he Election Commission of India make provision for cutailment of the term of office of some of the members elected so that as nearly as one-third of the members holding seats of each class shall retire on every second year thereafter, the notification added.
