Places identified for holding election meetings in Shimla town

Shimla, Oct 23(UNI) Shimla District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Tarun Kapoor today notifed places for holding election meetings by political parties of contesting candidates in the town's urban areas.

Ice Skating Rink, Ambedkar Chowk Gopal Mandir Ground, Boileauganj, space opposite CTO on the road leading to Lower Bazar and Naz restaurant had been notified for holding election meetings, a release here said.

Mr Kapoor informed that Ice Sketing Rink (maximum capacity 5,000 people) would be available till November 12 (except November 5 to 9, when fire cracker stalls would be put up there in view of Diwali) After November 12, this place would not be available for election meetings as skating would start there, he said adding that as skating did not start due to bad weather conditions, the date would be reviewed accordingly.

While other places, Ambedkar Chowk (maximum capacity 500 People), Ground opoositie Gopal Mandir, Boileauganju (maximum capacity 500 people), space opposite CTO on the road leading to Lower Bazr (maximum capacity 100 people) and Naz space on the Lower Bazar starting from Mall Road (maximum capacity 100 people) had been notified for election meetings and these would be available till the end of capaign period.

He told that the notified places would be available to all parties or contesting candidates impartially, subject to the condition that they inform about the date, venue and time of the proposed meetings three days in advance.

Premission to use loudspeakers or any other such facilities for the proposed meeting should be obtained separately from the SDM concerned. Application for permission would be submitted to ADM (L&O).

Besides, if any party or candidate desired to organise a rally on private place, the party candidate would have to inform ADM (L&O) with all details after obtaining permission in writing of the owner of the private land, he added.

Mr Kapoor told that the permission to hold rally would not automatically imply putting up of banners or hoardings. While applying for permission, exact timing of the rally had to be indicated.
