Incisional size in cataract surgery reduced: Expert

Chennai, Oct 22 (UNI) With the advent of the latest technologies, the incisional size of cataract surgery has been reduced, according to a renowned opthalmologist.

Dr Mohan Rajan of Rajan Eye Care hospital told newspersons here yesterday that reducing the size of incision of the cataract surgery to the extent of less than 1.8 mm would speed up the wound healing and further decrease the post-operative corneal astigmatism.

''This reduction has been made possible by the combination of high vaccum flow restrictive tubing, Stellaris Mics needle, the Stellaris Micro Incisional system and the micro incisional lenses launched by Bausch and Lomb,'' he added.

Stating that his hospital was the first centre in Asia to had this technology, he said the advantages of smaller incision would help visual recovery faster, the patient could return to his normal activities within 24-48 hours, minimal or no trauma to the ocular tissue, better visual acuity and highly safe surgery.
