Ailing housewife beaten to death by sorcerer in Punjab

Sangrur, Oct 22 (UNI) An ailing housewife was allegedly beaten to death by a warlock in the presence of her husband in this town last night, police today said.

According to the police one Sukhdev Singh used to periodically take his ailing wife Balwinder Kaur to the house of one Sukhi, a local sorcerer, who used to beat her often with an iron rod on the pertext of curing her.

Police said Balwinder was beaten so severely by the sorcerer yesterday that she died at the latter's house.

Sukhdev, instead of informing the police, cremated her body with the assistance of Sukhi and his wife Soma.

Police registered a criminal case against Sukhdev Singh, Sukhi and his wife Soma on a complaint of the victim's brother.

The police later arrested Sukhdev Singh while other co-accused are at large.
