Slain brigand's wife to take up tribals' cause

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Oct 21 (UNI) Ms Muthulakshmi, wife of the slain forest brigand Veerappan, today promised to work for the welfare of tribals under the banner of 'Malaivazh Makkal Iyakkam' and come to occupy an important position in politics.

Speaking at a marriage function at Vadalur here, Ms Muthulakshmi said she had always been a fighter and would now work for the upliftment of the tribals in areas surrounding the Sathyamangalam Forests, who were affected during the search operations of the Special Task Force (STF) formed to nab her husband.

Having lived in the forests for three years with Veerappan, she knew well about the conditions of the tribals and her prison term had only strengthened her resolve to help them.

She would now fight democratically to improve the lot of the tribals who had suffered during the combing operations.
