'Workplace smoking policy within 4 months: Ramadoss

Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Anbumani Ramadoss today said the government will implement the ''Workplace smoking policy'' within four months to prevent from smoking at any work place where other employees are non-smokers nor at home if the house maid objects to it.

Speaking at the Smt Priyamvada Devi Birla Oration Award function at the Bombay Hospital here today, Dr Ramadoss said that the government is working on a no-tobacco policy and the ''Workplace smoking policy'' will be a part of it.

He said the revenue earned by the government from the tobacco industry is around Rs 30,000 crore but the public and the government spend more than Rs 38,000 crore to fight against tobacco.

He stressed that the government will try to make the country as tobacco-free as possible as the market is shifting from the Western countries to the Eastern countries.
