Policeman killed, another wounded in Kashmir militant attack

Baramulla, Oct 20 (UNI) A policeman was killed and another wounded when suspected militants fired upon a vehicle carrying a senior police officer in Sopore area of this north Kashmir district today, official sources said.

They said, a Deputy Superintendent of Police was travelling in an official vehicle through Malanpora area in apple-rich Sopore town this morning when militants fired on him with automatic weapons.

The sources said the police officer's escort also retaliated.

A policeman, Imtiyaz Ahmed, was killed in the exchange of fire while his colleague, Mushtaq Ahmed, sustained injuries. A civilian was also wounded in the attack. they added, The injured have been hospitalised.

The gunfight was on when reports last came in.
