Hundreds throng puja pandals on Mahanavami

Kolkata, Oct 20 (UNI) Hundreds of devotees thronged the puja pandals here on Mahanavami today with authorities making elaborate security arrangements to avert any untoward incident.

Attired in new clothes, a large number of people were seen gathering at pandals since morning to have 'darshan' of Goddess Durga.

Puja revellers ignored the threat of rain, which lashed large areas of West Bengal on Mahasaptami and parts of the city on Mahaashtami, and thronged the pandals enjoying bright sunshine.

People swarmed the streets in large number in the evening and the gorgeously decorated and illuminated community puja pandals drew huge crowds.

A number of devotees observed 'Mahanavaratri' during this auspicious occasion across the state.

Meanwhile, the state administration has stepped up security measures in view of Vijayadashami tomorrow and to maintain peace during immersion.
