New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Reliance Communications today said it has got a go-ahead from the Department of Telecommunications(DoT) to use GSM technology in its existing licence areas, where it currently offers mobile services using CDMA technology.

The move makes Reliance, which runs GSM services in seven circles -- North-East, Assam, Orissa, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar -- ready to operate GSM services in rest parts of the country.

Reliance had applied to DoT for GSM spectrum for 15 circles in February last year.

DoT had recently cleared the policy, allowing dual usage of technologies, CDMA as well as GSM, to existing licensees.
