EAM speaks with Benazir, expresses sorrow

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee spoke with former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto this evening and expressed sorrow at the dastardly terrorist attack on her in Karachi yesterday.

In a telephonic conversation, Mr Mukherjee also expressed satisfaction that Ms Bhutto escaped unhurt in the attack which claimed the lives of nearly 135 people and injured about 500.

The External Affairs Minister expressed condolences at the deaths caused by the explosions.

Earlier, the External Affairs Minister had conveyed his concerns and sympathies to Ms Bhutto through Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Satyabrata Pal, who spoke to her this afternoon, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

The Minister also conveyed deep sympathies and condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the blasts.

Ms Bhutto thanked the Minister and the Government and the people of India for their concern and prayers.
