Social worker and BJP leader Ramesh Alshi dies

Thane, Oct 18 (UNI) Prominent social worker and BJP leader from Vikramgadh in this district Ramesh Alshi died after a protracted illness this morning. He was 73.

Ramesh Alshi, popular as Tatya, had not been well for the last several months and was being treated at the Bombay Hospital.

Tatya was the former president of the Vikhramgadh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was responsible for the party's growth in the taluka. He was a founder member of the erstwhile Jana Sangh.

Educational institutions and trading in the town remained closed today to mourn his death.

Mr Alshi's funeral was attended by members of all the political parties including BJP district chief Chintaman Wanga. He is survivied by his wife and two children.
