Punjab Congress talks of revival of terrorism
Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) The Punjab Congress today said that terrorist elements should be dealt with firmly as an attempt was being made to revive terrorism in Punjab.
The state government should deal firmly with terrorism as external forces and terrorist sympathisers were trying to revive the atmosphere of terror in Punjab, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today told mediapersons, refering to the cinema bomb explosion in Ludhiana which left six dead and 33 injured.
Supporting the demand of Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann for a probe by any central agency into the bomb explosion to get to the bottom of the conspiracy, she regretted that despite warnings by central security agencies, the state government had not taken adequate measures to prevent such incidents.
Mrs Bhattal demanded that the state government should enhance the Rs two lakh exgratia announced for each of the six bomb blast victims to Rs 10 lakh each. Those who suffered disablities in the incident should be given a grant of Rs five lakh each.
Turning to politics, Mrs Bhattal claimed that the SAD-BJP government had been a failure on all fronts. The government has no clear cut agenda and there is no ''taal mail'' (working relationship) between the SAD and BJP, she claimed.
Refering to the recent demand by state Information and Public Relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia to transfer the DC and SSP of Amritsar, she said that it was rather strange that a minister was making such a demand. '' There is something wrong with the government, its own ministers are not satisfied'', she noted.
Regarding the views expressed by Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on the poor fiscal condition of the state, the PPCC chief opined that the minister should in clear terms spell out his economics. '' Manpreet is the right man in the wrong party'', she quipped.
The PPCC chief denied that there was any rift in the party. She said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi will visit Punjab in the third week of November.
