Notices served upon Malegaon blasts accused

Nashik, Oct 18: In a process to declare three of the accused in last year's September 8 Malegaon blasts as absconders, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has served notices upon the trio to present themselves before the court.

The three accused are Riyaz Ahmed, Ishtiq Mohammed and Mohammed Ahmed.

The notices were pasted on the houses of the accused as they were not available.

The CBI is expected to file a chargesheet in the case on October 23 and, so, the process of declaring the three, who are untraceable, as absconding accused was initiated.

The Malegaon blasts case was earlier being probed by the Anti Terrorist Squad (AIS) but following demands from some Muslim organisations, the inquiry was handed over to the CBI.

The blasts took place at Bada Kabrastan and Mushawarat chowk area of the powerloom town of Malegaon, on the occasion of Shabe-e-Barat, on September 8, 2006 which killed 31 people were killed and more than 300, were injured in the blast.
