JD(U) to field 25 candidates in Gujarat assembly polls

Vadodara, Oct 18 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) will be fielding 25 candidates in the forthcoming Gujarat assembly elections, General Secretary of the party K C Tyagi said today.

Addressing mediapersons here this evening, Mr Tyagi said the candidates would be announced from 11 districts-- Bharuch, Surat, Narmada, Ahmedabad, Panchmahals, Baroda, Kutch, Surendranagar, Dangs, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha.

Mr Tyagi said party president Sharad Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would be addressing the campaign meetings next month.

''In the last election, we fielded 19 candidates and two had won, one from Dediapada and the other from Jhagadia,'' Mr Tyagi, who is a former MP, said.

Taking a dig at the Narendra Modi government, he said it had done nothing for Dalits, Adivasis and the poor.
