Education necessary for prosperous society: Kokje

Shimla, Oct 18 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today inaugurated a daylong workshop of National Knowledge Commission (NKC) in the UGC Academic Staff College of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).

Inaugurating the workshop, he emphasised the need of education, which is relevant for building up strong and prosperous society besides leading to academic excellence.

Mr Kokje said the nation must decide and define the aim and goal of education.

NKC Advisor Kiran Datar said that a new wave of institutions building has to be undertaken with the reforms at one and fast expansion on the other hand.

She said the universities were flooded with number of students and affiliating colleges so there was a need to open new universities and colleges.

The workshop would deliberate on the issues of expansion, excellence and inclusion in Higher Education in the light of recommendations of NKC. 32 senior academicians and academic administrators from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal are participating in the workshop.
