Dussera festival begins in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Oct 18 (UNI) A four-day-long Kolhapur Dussera Festival got underway here this evening.

Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Patangrao Kadam formally inaugurated the festival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji stadium, which was presided over by state Marketing Minister Harshwardhan Patil, who is Kolhapur District Guardian Minister.

On the occasion, various personalities were honoured for their outstanding contribution to their respective fields. They included Marathi film song writer Jagdish Khebudkar, veteran character actor Ganpat Patil, veteran playback singer Sulochana Chavan, Commonwealth Games award winner wrestler Ram Sarang, swimmer Veerdhaval Khade and shooter Navnath Phadtare among others.

The festival started with a cultural programme 'Marathi Tarka', which was presented by noted Marathi film actresses, besides a comedy show by actor Vijay Chavan.
