SUCI will field candidates in Gujarat elections

Ahmedabad, Oct 17 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) has decided to contest three seats in the ensuing Assembly elections in Gujarat.

SUCI Gujarat State Organising Committee Secretary Dwarika Nath Rath told UNI that ''we will contest three seats from the state in the December assembly election''.

He said SUCI would be fielding candidates in the assembly elections from Ellisbridge constituency of Ahmedabad, Sayajiganj in Baroda and Choryasi in Surat.

SUCI had unsuccessfully contested from the Choryasi constituency in the 2002 assembly election. ''This time, we have decided to fight the elections in three seats from major cities to enter the Gujarat Assembly,'' Rath added.

SUCI, a revolutionary party based on Marxism-Leninism, was founded on April 24, 1948, under the leadership of a foremost Marxist thinker of his era, Comrade Shibdas Ghosh.

SUCI has its MLAs in the Bengal and Orissa assemblies, he added.
