Protest rally in Haflong against killings

Haflong, Oct 17 (UNI) A silent procession was taken out by the Kukis of North Cachar (NC) Hills district today against the killing of two persons, including a minor, by suspected Dimasa militants.

The rally, led by Kuki Students' Organisation(KSO) in Haflong town, demanded the arrest of the alleged Dimasa militants behind the killings of Khupkhokai Changsan (31) and Mangneikam Lhoujiem (10) under the Harangajao outpost, on September 30 last.

The KSO also submitted a memorandum to NC Hills Deputy Commissioner (DC) AK Barua and demanded tighter security for the border villages. They also demanded compensation and job to the next to kin of the deceased.

The DC assured them of all possible help and urged the people not to provide shelter or any other support to the militant.

He also informed the KSO leadership about the successes the security forces had achieved in the district and adjoining areas in counter-insurgency in the recent past.
