Illegal sand mining banned in Chikkaballapur District

Chikkaballapur, Oct 17 (UNI) Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav announced ban of illegal sand mining in Chikkaballapur District with immediate effect.

Addressing a meeting of District Officials, he said that the ban was in view of rampant illegal sand mining activities in the district. He said that check posts would be set up and mobile squads would be formed to prevent illegal transport of sand from various parts of the district.

He said Chikkaballapur taluk would have three check posts, while other taluks will have one check post each. Revenue, Forest, Police, Mines and Geology department officials would discharge their duties in shifts to prevent illegal sand mining.

Superintendent of Police Krishna Bhat, who was also present, said that six vehicles, fitted with Wireless, would be deployed and personnel manning the check posts would be provided with mobile sets Though permission has been given for sand mining in Tumkur district, steps would be taken to prevent sand laden lorries from passing through Chikkabalapur he added.
