FSI celebrates Diamond Jubilee in Andamans

Port Blair, Oct 17 (UNI) The Port Blair Zonal Base of Fishery Survey of India(FSI) today celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in these remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

As a part of the celebration programme, a fishermen meet was organised at Hut Bay to create awareness among the fishermen regarding fishery resources available in the surrounding water and the level of exploitation in these Islands.

A regional workshop on marine fishery resources in these islands will be held for the benefit of local fishermen at Hut Bay Island on October 22. FSI Zonal Director A Anrose told UNI today.

The Director said that the Scientific papers on Marine fishery resources, Diversified fishing methods, code of conduct on responsible fishery, safety at sea etc will be presented by the Scientists of FSI. On November 2, a marine exhibition will be organised at FSI museum and an open house on board MFV Blue Marlin berthed at Phoenix Bay will be held.

Similarly, a departmental vessel MFV Blue Marlin will be declared open for the public and the fishing fraternity to get on the spot knowledge regarding fishing techniques, fishes available in these islands, modern electronic, fishing and navigational equipment etc.

On November 5, a Zonal seminar will also be held at Fishery Survey of India conference hall on the topic - Marine Fisheries Potential, Present status and Scope for Sustainable Development, the Director told UNI.

The Port Blair Zonal Base of Fishery Survey of India had also organized sports tournament to mark the occasion. FSI is organizing all these events till November 8, the Director added.
