Panaji, Oct 17 (UNI) In a big relief to employees of several government offices at Patto complex, the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) submitted an undertaking to the Bombay High Court at Panaji that it would stop dumping of the garbage near the complex with immediate effect.

This was in response to the LIC Employees Union's Public Interest Litigation that came up for hearing today before the division bench comprising Justice R S Mohite and Justice N A Britto, praying for stalling the dumping in the interest of the upkeep of public health.

The CCP had in its undertaking said it would also remove the entire garbage by November 20 this year. The court directed the complainant that it could approach the court again if the CCP failed to keep the assurance.

The corporation had been dumping it for the last two years despite a notice against it by the Goa State Pollution Control Board and protests by various offices including LIC, BSNL, IDC, Income Tax, Customs, Passport besides several corporate houses following the stench it had generated causing health hazard.

The High Court treated the written complaint of the LIC Employees union representing advocate Aires Rodrigues, as the PIL.
