Chennai, Oct 17 (UNI) The Congress today said a resolution for the speedy implementation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP) could not be passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly as the matter was subjudice.

Talking to newspersons, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader D Sudarsanam asked how can a resolution be passed in the State Assembly when the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.

He was replying to a queston on whether his party would ask the Government to adopt a resolution in the State Assembly for the speedy implementation of the project.

''The State Assembly cannot pass a resolution when the matter is pending before the Supreme Court'', he added.

Asked whether his party would raise the SSCP issue in the State Assembly, Mr Sudarsanam said ''no''.

''We will not raise it. If some other party raised the issue, we will talk on it'', he added.

However, the Congress party was in favour of not only the SSCP, but also the Nanguneri Industrial Park and the shelved Titanium di-oxide project, which would help in development of the backward southern districts and generate job opportunities for several people.

The Congress always favoured speedy implementation of the SSCP and other projects and also for development of Colachel harbour and Muttam fishing harbour.

Expressing concern over the fall in prices of Copra, he said the State Government should procure it in the interests of farmers.

He said free CTVs should be given to the ration card-holders of all the families living Below Poverty Line(BPL).
