Cong leader's vehicle kills one in Rae Bareli; truck kills another

Rae Bareli, UP, Oct 17 (UNI) In a bizzare series of events here this morning, a villager was crushed to death by a vehicle of Congress Legislature Party leader's convoy on the busy Lucknow highway where a teenaged girl was killed by a speeding truck an hour ago.

Police said, a truck carrying tractors crushed a college student, identified as Renu, near Bachrawan around 0930 hrs. Soon after the incident, the truck driver took refuge in a police station.

An agitated mob torched the truck and pelted stones at policemen, injuring the Circle Officer and Station House Officer. One of the tractors laden on the truck was also burnt in the process Even as the angry villgers were blocking the busy highway, the carcade of UP CLP leader Pramod Tiwari was passing. When the driver of one of the vehicles tried to pass through the blockade, two people came under the wheels of the vehicle. While one of the persons was killed, the other was greviously injured.

It was not immediately known whether the driver of Mr Tiwari's carcade was arrested. The driver of the truck, Santosh Agarwal, has been arrested.
