5.6 lakh voters to exercise their franchise for by-polls

Panaji, Oct 17 (UNI) More than 5.6 lakh electorate, almost half of them women, will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the October 31 by-election to the Mormugao Parliamentary Constituency in South Goa.

Out of 21 segments in the constituency, Ponda has the highest 37,241 voters, whereas Ponguinim has 15,590 voters which is the lowest.

Female electorate outnumbered male counterparts in nine segments including Shiroda, Loutolim, Benaulim, Fatorda, Curtorim, Navelim, Cuncolim and Sanguem.

The polling will be held in 590 booths, with Ponda having the highest 36 stations and Poinguinim the lowest 21.

There are as many as 614 service electors icluding 403 male members.

Vasco-da-Gama has the highest number of 376 service voters, according to official sources.
