Worst Tsunami-hit island gets STARS counter

Port Blair, Oct 16 (UNI) The Andaman Islands get better connectivity with the introduction of the Ship Ticket Advance Reservation System (STARS) for ships travelling between the islands.

Campbell Bay, one of the worst-hit islands in the 2004 Tsunami, was today linked with the rest of the islands with the settihg up of the Ship Ticket Advance Reservation System (STARS) counter.

The computerized STARS Counter was formally inaugurated at Campbell Bay by Additional Director of Shipping Services of A&N Administration Amit Kumar, official said.

With its introduction, people of Campbell Bay can avail the facility of booking advance ship tickets for any destination between islands and mainland, Ashish More, Assistant Commissioner of Campbell Bay Islands told media persons here.

In his inaugural speech, the Additional Director of Shipping Services Mr Kumar elaborated inbuilt features of the system, which is in line with the railway reservation system.

The Directorate of Shipping Services is also working on introduction of e-Ticketing, Mr Kumar added. The Assistant Commissioner, leaders of all political parties, and Ex-Sericemen Committee have welcomed the step and also appreciated the new system, which will streamline and systematize the ship ticketing service.
