Three die after being hit by train

Kochi, Oct 16 (UNI) Three men, believed to be labourers from Orissa, were killed after being hit by the Palakkad-Trivandrum Amritha Express here around midnight yesterday, police said today.

Kalmaserry police station officials said the three, who have not been identified so far, were walking on the railway track near Kalmaserry when they saw the Pune Express coming on the track.

To avoid the train, they jumped to the other track but were hit by Amritha Express, which was coming from the other side.

Police have not been able to identify the three so far. However, a diary bearing the name of Nibas Kumar Nayak, Khurda district, Orissa, was found in the pocket of one of them.

The bodies have been kept in the mortuary at the Ernakulam General Hospital.
