Puducherry admn to computerise all welfare schemes soon

Puducherry, Oct 16 (UNI) The Puducherry Administration would computerise all welfare schemes soon to ensure that benefits would reach the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and other needy, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy said today.

Inaugurating the 'World Food Day' celebrations jointly organised by the Food and Nutrition Board, Krishi Vigayan Kendra and Women and Child Development Department of the Territorial Administration at Bahour, near here, Mr Kandasamy said Anganwadi workers should ensure that quality food was being distributed to women and children since they were the main factors for human resources in the country.

The administration was allocating a huge amount for welfare of the poor and he called upon the authorities to ensure that the funds were being utilised in a proper way.

He said the financial assistance being provided to pregnant women and lactating mothers of the Adi Dravidar community was enhanced to Rs 6,000. Steps would also be taken to enhance the assistance to those from other communities.

Stating that the appointment of welfare inspectors in the Adi Dravidar Department, would be purely on the basis of merit list, Mr Kandasamy called upon youths not to cheat themselves by giving money to get the job and added that the administration had already proposed to give training to the educated unemployed Adi Dravidar youths through the Krishi Vigayan Kendra to start agricultural related self-employment.
