Panaji, Oct 16 (UNI) NRI Affairs Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro said the annual NRI Convention of Goans (Gomant Vishwa Samelan) may not be held in Goa in future with several Non-Resident Goan organisations across the world willing to host the event at different places.

Addressing a press conference here today he said that the organisations sought financial support for conventions for their active participation. The Goan community in Portugal held their convention in Lisbon in June last for which the authorities had sanctioned 5,000 Euros as grant.

This state NRI department will also provide some financial support to the conference on ''Goan Diaspora - between the Home and the Host'', to be held on December 15 in New Delhi by ''Goenkarncho Ekvot'', an organisation of the Goan community in the capital, he added.

Mr Faliero further said that the department had decided to offer Rs three lakh finance to one such convention each year. Such convention however, should be held in rotation in different continents and in a country with significant NRG population.

The Indian Embassy or the High Commission in that country should recommend the event with the detailed programme approved thereof for its successful conduct.

Such an event in Goa can be held on the eve of Christmas or the New Year which facilitates family get together of NRG population, he noted.

Meanwhile, Mr Faleiro is scheduled to visit Gulf countries in November-December to interact with the Goan emigrants to sort out their problems if any in consultation with the local officials.

His tour is being organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and by respective Indian Embassies in those countries.
