Local scribes give Memo over scribe's arrest

Sonepat , Oct 16 (UNI) Members of the district press club and its affiliated units, protesting against the arrest of a journalist last week, handed over a memorandum, addressed to Haryana governor, to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, demanding withdrawal of the case.

The memo, handed over to ADC Anita Yadav, also demanded an independent inquiry and action against the police officials allegedly involved in registering a false case against Ajit Ram Bansal from Kharkhauda last Saturday.

Ajit Ram Bansal, a reporter with a Hindi daily from Kharkhauda town was arrested on October 13 for allegedly filing a 'fabricated' news story relating to an incident of firing, bullet injury to a Dalit woman and her alleged kidnapping at village Parladpur-Kidoli.

After an inquiry by DSP Banwari Lal, a case under section 153-A was registered against the reporter and he was arrested.

He was produced in the court and was sent in 14-day judicial custody .

The reporter was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak last night when he complained of high blood pressure to jail authorities here.
