Phagwara, Oct 16 (UNI) Police today stepped up vigilance in this district today after a threatening letter allegedly by a Kashmiri outfit to blow up several prominent places, including religious venues on Dussehra festival, was received by media offices here last evening.

The letter, purportedly sent by Tasalamrim, commander of Kashmiri militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, threatened to blast public places including Shri Hanuman Garhi temple, railway station and bus stand here.

The letter has also threatened to trigger blasts in Ludhiana and Jalandhar.

Phagwara DSP, HPS Khakh told UNI that police could not take any chances even though the letter could be an act of mischief and the cops have been put on high alert in view of the Ludhiana blast on Sunday.

Police officers have been ordered to keep tight vigil at sensitive places including Ram Lila and Bhagwati Jagrans venues, Mr Khakh said.

The DSP said additional forces have been deputed at various places including bus stand, railway station, main markets and other sensitive places.

Such type of threatening letters had been received by others including Phagwara Railway Station Superintendent and Railway Police in the past and perhaps this was the sixth such letter, Mr Khakh said.
