Garuda Seva held in Tirumala

Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 16 (UNI) Over three lakh pilgrims witnessed 'Garuda Seva' this evening, as part of the nine-day Navarathri Brahmotsavams of the Sri Venkateswara Temple here.

The Lord on the golden 'Garuda Vahanam' was taken around the four Mada streets in a colourful procession. The processional deity of Lord Malayappa Swamy was adorned with precious centuries-old ornaments The palm-sized emerald adorning the chest of the Lord was a feast to the eyes of devotees.

Caparisoned temple elephants, horses and bulls, the Veda Goshti led by TTD pontiff and the traditional temple band marched in the front.

While the second ghat road witnessed continuous vehicular traffic since evening, ten and thousands of devotees reached the shrine on foot.

Several areas in the temple town were choked and all parking slots filled to capacity. Traffic police imposed curbs and regulated vehicular movement. All the two wheelers were stopped at least two kms away from the hill shrine.

Police made elaborate security arrangements besides installing at least 35 metal detectors at vital places in and around the Tirumala temple, including four Mada streets.
