EPIC work in TN to be over before Jan 11: CEO

Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Oct 16 (UNI) The process of issuing electoral photo identity card (EPIC) in Tamil Nadu will be completed before January 11 next, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said today.

Speaking to the press here after a review meeting with Collectors and Revenue Officials of Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin Districts, Mr Gupta said 95 per cent of the work was complete.

As many as 97 per cent of the voters in Kanniyakumari, 96 per cent in Tuticorin and 95 per cent in Tirunelveli had been issued EPICs.

The Election Commission (EC) had also decided to issue fresh cards if the photographs on the EPICs were not clear.

To a question, he said the officials were not able to complete the task of issuing EPICs due to practical difficulties like the voters not being available at home during enumeration or having changed residence.

Answering another question, Mr Naresh Gupta said he would not be able to say anything on the delimitation of constitencies as it was under the purview of the Election Commission of India.

The Delimitation Commission has already submitted its report, he added.
