Devasthanam to send 1.2 lakh 'laddu' packets by Speed Post

Vijayawada, Oct 16 (UNI) The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam will send 1.2 lakh 'laddu prasadam' packets through Speed Post during the nine-day Navarathri festival.

A temple official told UNI that packets would be sent to those intending to get it against payment of Rs 50 either at the nearest post office or at the Devasthanam office here.

Besides one laddu, the packet would also contain a small photo of goddess Durga and 'Kumkum,' he said adding the Devasthanam had sent 1.5 lakh 'laddu' packets to the devotees last year through the Postal Department.

As part of the festival, hundreds of devotees worship Goddess Kanakadurga adorned in the form 'Lalitha Tripura Sundari Devi.' Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister J Ratnakar Rao would present a 'silk robe' to the Goddess on behalf of the government tomorrow.

More than two lakh devotees were expected to offer their prayers on the occasion of 'Mulanakshtran Day' (the birth star of goddess), tomorrow, he said.

The official said special cultural programme by noted vocalist Mangalampali Bala Murali Krishna, would be conducted on October 20.

The Devasthanam would present a 12 gm gold ring and vastrams to him on the occasion.

The festival would conclude with 'teppotsavam' when the deity would be taken on 'Hamsa Vahanam' in river Krishna on October 21, he added.
