Customs find prohibited plastic waste in US consignment

Kochi, Oct 16 (UNI) Customs officials found prohibited plastic waste mixed with waste paper in a US container consignment, which arrived at Cochin Port recently, officials said today.

Customs officials said two other US containers, docked at Cochin Port, were yet to be examined.

However, no case has been registered or seizures made so far, they added.

Last year, customs had seized and sent back 12 consignments of plastic waste from Cochin Port.

While import of waste paper is allowed, that of plastic waste is prohibited.

The consignment, imported by a company here, was supposed to contain waste paper only.
