100 copies of Granth Sahib seized at Mumbai Airport

Amritsar, Oct 16 (UNI) As many as 100 copies (saroop) of the Guru Granth Sahib were seized by the Customs at the Mumbai International airport, today.

Giving this information here, a SGPC spokesman said that the copies were seized on the complaint of the 'Sikh Sangat' of Mumbai.

The Sikh Sangat had lodged a complaint with the Customs that the copies were not being transported in accordance to the Sikh code of conduct (maryada) as laid down by the Akal Takht, the spokesman added.

The SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar, who is in Mumbai was contacted by the Sikh Sangat just before the seizure of the copies. The copies were being sent by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to Canada.

The spokesman said that the SGPC chief will make a written complaint before the Akal Takht on his return.
