Eight DHD ultras arrested in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 15 (UNI) Meghalaya Police arrested eight militants of the Assam-based Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) or ''Black Widow'' here.

Police said today that the ultras were arrested yesterday and pistols, ammuntion and other incriminating documents, besides Rs 35,000 in cash, were seized from their possession.

The arrested militants were in the wanted list of the Assam police for their alleged involvment in several criminal cases in Karbi-Anglong district of Assam, police added.

Police said a case had been registered under the Arms Act, adding that investigation was on.

The Black Widow group, also known as the DHD, was formed in June, 2004 and has the support of the NSCN (I-M), another militant outfit, which is presently under a ceasefire agreement with the Centre since the past ten years.

Meanwhile, a team of Assam police arrived here to interrogate the arrested cadres.
