Autorickshaw drivers, transporters stage 'jail bharo' agitation

Kolhapur, Oct 15 (UNI) The drivers of autorickshaw and private transporters today staged a 'jail bharo' agitation in front of the district collectorate to protest the pathetic conditions of the city's roads.

The 'jail bharo' agitation was part of their ongoing agitation, planned jointly by the Autorickshaw Action Committee and the District Private Transporters Association, to draw the administration's attention over the issue.

About 175 agitators, led by their leaders including Vijay Devane and others, were arrested and released later, police sources said.

Later, Mr Devane told reporters that on October 17, rickshawmen and other transporters, along with their vehicles, will 'gherao' the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation's (KMC) main building to draw the administration's attention towards their demands.
