TSECL officials said here today that it had requested to buy 20 MW power from the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Ltd (MSECL) but the corporation had assured to supply only 10 MW during the festival, which forced the authorities to request for power from other states.
According to estimate, about 40 MW additional power would be required during the celebrations but the state could manage only about 10 MW from its own resources.
Consequently, the arrangement was made on the basis of estimates as well as the supplying agencies, officials stated.
The state's requirement is about 122 MW during the festive season. However, it could manage to produce only about 83 MW power and additional Rs one crore was required to meet the enhanced demand.
''TSECL is also trying to increase its own generation to reduce the load,'' TSECL Chairman-cum-Managing-Director said, adding that an eight MW capacity turbine was likely to be made operational within the next few days at Rukhia power plant.
