Student selected for U-19 Hockey Team drowns

Madikeri, Karnataka, Oct 14 (UNI) A first year PUC student from Mangalore, selected for the Under-19 Hockey team, drowned in Abbe falls here today.

Police said Prem Sagar (17) had come here with three class-mates for the selection. After making it to the U-19 team, a jubilant Prem Sagar trekked to Abbe Falls from Navodaya Vidyalaya at Gaalibeedu, where the selection was going on, along with 15 other students and a coach.

An excited Sagar jumped into the waters, despite swimming being prohibited in the area. He met with a watery grave in the swift currents in front of his friends, who tried in vain to save him.

The body was recovered later and kept at mortuary, police said and added that his parents in Mangalore were informed.
