A
60-member
group
of
the
Irish
Heart
Foundation
will
walk
across
three
districts
in
Kerala
to
spread
awareness
about
heart
disease
and
'walking'.
The group, brought to the State by the tours division of the Saj Group Holiday at Kerala, would give information to the public about heart health, supports patients in managing heart disease and stroke, health programmes in schools and work places and co-ordinates the training of medicos and public in emergency life-saving skills, said Company Marketing Manager Vinod K B.
Mr Vinod said the group headed by Ruth Findlater would be in Kerala till October 23, and would travel by foot around 120 kms in four days through villages, towns and cities in the districts of Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kottayam.
The group has forty women and thrity men in the age group of 25 to 80.
Besides spreading the message, the programme, first in the country, would also be an opportunity for the group to tour the State, which would focus on 'walking tourism', he added.
According to medical research 'brisk walking' was the safest and beneficial measure against coronory heart diseases.
