2,000 additional security personnel deployed during Durga Puja
Agartala, Oct 14 (UNI) The Tripura government has deployed 2,000 additional security personnel across the state to ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations from October 18-21.
State Home Department officials said here today that besides Armymen, policemen in plain clothes, bomb disposal and dog squads would be pressed into service at the sensitive areas of the state while the intelligence network had been enhanced.
''We would also set up police helplines at the important and crowded centres of Agartala and all sub-divisional headquarters,'' Superintendent of Police Nepal Das said.
Meanwhile, a police report said about 10,000 Durga Puja celebrations, including 1,000 in the city and its suburbs, had been organised this year in the state. A good number of Pujas were also arranged in strife-torn and tribal-dominated remote locations.
The State Transport Department asked both private and public bus drivers to ensure smooth running of vehicles for covering short distances and point-to-point services, besides the normal hours, on the Puja days.
