TN Govt takes steps for more engineering colleges:Minister

Karur, Oct 13 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government was making efforts to start 20 more engineering colleges in the State during the next academic year, according to State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi.

Mr Ponmudi said at a function yesterday that during the previous AIADMK regime, no Government Arts College was established in the State, whereas in the last 18 months of the DMK regime, six Government Arts Colleges were set up and the total number of colleges went up to 66.

Mr Ponmudi claimed that only Tamil Nadu was adopting counselling system for admitting students in Government Arts Colleges.

He called upon the teachers and students to work for the improvement in standard of education and said the Government was ready to provide necessary assistance to achieve the goal.
