JK: Shia community celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr

section
of
Shia
community
today
celebrated
Eid-ul-Fitr,
marking
the
end
of
the
Islamic
fasting
month
of
Ramzan,
in
Srinagar,
Badgam,
Leh
and
Kargil
districts
of
Jammu
and
Kashmir.
According to reports received here, the Shia community in Kargil and Leh districts celebrated Eid with religious fervour and gaiety.
The main congregations in Kargil, Leh and Drass were held at the respective Jamia mosques.
According to the Kargil-based Islamiah School, the new moon was sighted at Trespon in the border district at 1430 hrs yesterday.
A section of the Shia community, affiliated to senior Hurriyat leader Aga Syed Hassan also celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in Kashmir -- Srinagar and Badgam districts -- today.
Eid prayers were offered in various mosques in Badgam district and many places in Srinagar city.
However, followers of prominent Shia clerics -- Peoples Democratic Party vice-president Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and former Hurriyat Conference chairman Maulana Abbas Ansari -- would celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr along with the entire Sunni community across Jammu and Kashmir, including Kargil and Leh districts, tomorrow.
