Rodrigues extends greetings to people on Id-ul-fitr

Chandigarh, Oct 13 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues today extended his greetings to people, especially Muslims, on the eve of Id-ul-fitr.

In a message, he said that this festival, which marks the end of month long fasting and special prayers, symbolizes compassion, kindness, love and brotherhood.

He said that this occasion of rejoicing, festivities and self-purification also "reminds us to renew our resolve to dedicate ourselves to the goals of peace, amity and mutual trust".

General Rodrigues said that in keeping with the noble ideals of this festival, the Chandigarh Administration had taken various initiatives for upgrading the quality of life and social economic status of our muslim brethren through an action oriented approach.

He said that opportunities were being created for improving educational and health status besides arranging vocational and professional courses for them. He impressed upon the members of the muslim community to actively involve themselves in these programmes and be active partners in this process of social change.

"Let this festival of Id-ul-Fitr bring happiness and harmony and instill in us a sense of unity and pride, in the composite culture of India", he said. He appealed to the people to join muslims in celebrating the festival collectively, rising above caste and creed prejudices.
