President, Prime Minister greet country on Eid-Ul-Fitr

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the nation on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of 'Ramzan'.

In a message, the President observed that the day was celebrated as a day of forgivenesss, fellowship, thanksgiving and moral victory.

''I hope that the occasion, with its tradition of giving and sharing, will infuse the spirit of unity and harmony in us,'' she said, conveying her warm wishes to all fellow citizens in India and abroad.

Dr Singh said the festival is being celebrated with gaiety and fervour at the end of the pious month of Ramzan. The festival symbolises brotherhood, compassion, sharing and it also reflects the true spirit of our composite culture.

He hoped that the festival would further strengthen ''the bonds of our composite society. '' '''May the Eid-Ul-Fitr usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all,'' the Prime Minister added.
