Militant killed in Kashmir after a brief gunfight

Srinagar, Oct 13: Security forces gunned down a militant after a brief gunfight in Handwara area of Kupwara district in north Kashmir last night, police said today.

They said the police and troops of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) cordorned and launched search operation in general area of Shatagund Payeen in Handwara following specific information.

During the operation, police said the militants fired upon the security forces with automatic weapons.

The fire was effectively retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, one militant was killed, police added.
