Manipur journalists call off stir

Imphal, Oct 13 (UNI) Manipur journalists under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) today called off their stir to protest the threat by militants to the scribes.

Due to the stir there was no newspaper for the third consecutive day here.

After a day long deliberation today, journalists decided to call off the stir.

The journalists had also staged a sit in protest at the Manipur Press Club yesterday.

The AMWJU had condemned the threat given to the journalists by militants and appealed to all to allow the media to function freely.

A militant outfit had asked the journalists to publish news which the former desired. The media persons denied to agree to this and this resulted in a stand off in Manipur during the last three days.
