Keralites celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (UNI) Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The devotees in large numbers attended special prayers at mosques and id-gahs in different parts of the state and extended warm wishes and greetings.

In Thiruvananthapuram, special prayers were held at a specially erected Id-gah. A report from Kozhikode said Muslims in Malabar region in large numbers attended special prayers in mosques and erected separate id-gahs at different places. Hundreds of worshippers turned up at the id-gahs, at the Corporation Stadium and Kozhikode beach to offer prayers.

Reports from Kannur and Kochi also said thousands of devotees thronged the special Id-gahs.

Addressing the gatherings, religious leaders exhorted the community to lead an commendable life to maintain peace and harmony.

Chief Minister V S Achutanandan and Opposition leader in the State Assembly Oommen Chandy also extended Ramzan greetings.
